Illustration Friday "Clandestine" Global Warning

Remember how you could hold a thermometer up to a light bulb to raise the temperature and then put it into your mouth really quick when you heard your mom walking down the hall to your room? I'm not an expert on global warming, but I think there could be darker motives behind the idea. And not just that people will only listen to Gore if they are afraid for their lives and the lives of their children.

I do love me a short bus. I want a really short one with a bunk bed in the back for road trips in Europe :)

Life Devoted to Art

Life isn't long enough for love and art.
[info][add][mail]
W. Somerset Maugham (1874 - 1965), The Moon and Sixpence
I have been thinking about where I want to go as an artist. Do I want to develop a personal style, and find a way to make a living through my art and become famous? Honestly, I don't know if I do. When I found this quote, I was amazed at how accurately it spoke to how I feel. If, on my death-bed, I look back on a life as a great artist achieved at the expense of love and relationship, I will not be satisfied. I want to succeed as an artist, but time spent on any activity is time lost on another. I want to be proud of my life's work, even if it is not a work of art.

In Distress

Sometimes the hero never drops out of the sky at the last second to untie the struggling figure tied up on the tracks. The train keeps right on chugging along. And most times it's not as bad as expected.

My Day on Friday

A special thanks goes out today to my cousin for offering to drive me to volleyball after my car wouldn't start at work. She is basically number two in volleyball for the whole United States of America. I'm pretty proud to be related to her.

Austin Kleon: Newspaper Blackout Poems Contest

(my entry is shown above)

I just ran across this website. They are making a book of Blackout Poems, and anyone can enter for a chance to be in the book. Here is the press release from Mr. Kleon's site. Or you can go directly to his site here.

HARPERCOLLINS TO PUBLISH COLLECTION OF NEWSPAPER BLACKOUT POEMS

July 8—HarperCollins has signed Austin Kleon to write a collection of his popular Newspaper Blackout Poems for a book due from Harper Paperbacks in September 2009. Instead of starting with a blank page, the Austin-based writer and cartoonist picks up a newspaper and a permanent marker and eliminates the words he doesn’t need. Kleon’s poems, which he began posting on his popular blog, have been featured on NPR’s Morning Edition and in Toronto’s National Post, and have been widely linked to on the internet. In addition to original poems by Austin, the book will contain submissions from his fans which will be solicited through a contest on the author’s website starting in August.

Though he will be updating his site periodically, Kleon will be taking a break from daily blogging to complete the book. Check back on the site in August to find out how you can submit your entry and be published in the upcoming book!

For press inquiries, please contact Audrey Harris at 212-207-7185 audrey.harris@harpercollins.com.

It's not to late to submit your own entry for the last judging period in November. All entries must be submitted by November 21, 2008 (5:00 P.M. EST).

Bears

Some bears watching Old Western movies. I am a big fan of bears. The angry one on the right can't find any Sugar Babies. The one on the left just noticed you are watching him. If I were you, I wouldn't make any sudden moves.

Inside Page of a Dinosaur Themed Children's Book

"Do you think there are any Meateaters looking in our windows right now? What about when I'm asleep? Are Meateaters hungry at night? Will they see me if I hide under the covers? Can I sleep with you in your bed tonight?"

Politics

I'm not excited about either one of our country's two choices for President. On the other hand, I so deeply want to be a good citizen, so I decided I would write in the candidate that I feel is truly prepared to lead the free world. Sanjaya.

Lamp (Inspired by art of the masses)

First Post!

This is a sketch I did for a possible t-shirt.

I like the sick feeling you get when you are falling and this picture gives me a minor shot of it. Also, just in case anyone is nervous for the little swimmer, there is water below...
